Just What The Doctor Ordered

Posted in Rants at 4:21 am

On the way back to Pittsburgh, I made a stop over in Erie and picked up one of the old Doctor Who stories, in this case “City of Death”. ( Cutting Doctor Who ramblings and a couple spoilerish things… » )

As I’d said, next on my list (in a couple of weeks) is the set starting with “The Keeper of Traken”, but until then I’m likely to keep watching Torchwood (I’m so horribly backlogged on that).

Thoughts of a Despairing Appleologist

Posted in Appleology, Rants at 4:33 pm

Over the weekend– which was fantastically relaxing, thank you– I came across a post on an unnamed forum by an unnamed individual. Well, all right, the forum and the person do indeed have named, but I’d rather not reveal them here. Anyway, this person’s someone who I’ve had an arm’s-length relationship for a while, and in general I respect his opinion, even if I also in general almost never agree with him. Funny thing about that, really; I might not agree but he’s got a solid opinion and his arguments work from his point of view… just not mine, usually. That’s tangential, really, to the point at hand, being that he had a temporarily-bricked iPhone because he loaded a custom ringtone on it prior to the firmware upgrade.

Needless to say, he was upset. ( I don’t blame him, really… » )

Blisteringly Ballistic Bailout

Posted in Bailout, Gaming at 5:26 am

On a lark, I picked up a used copy of Every Extend Extra for the PSP… now, THIS is a game I can get into! Not only is it ridiculously hard– in the good way– but it’s got the whole Rez-like synaesthetic music vibe thing going for it, and that’s never a bad thing. In any event, here’s the game’s first stage being played by someone far better than I am. Catch you folks tomorrow with an actual entry.

The Only Good Part About CSI: Miami

Forgive the annoying repeated screams. Also forgive the excessive exposure to David Caruso.

Send Me Some Bailout

Posted in Anime, Bailout at 4:04 am

So, yeah, I’m on my way to my parents’ house this weekend, so we’re looking at Bailout until Sunday. This first one seems to be one of the better Scrapped Princess AMVs I’ve seen in a while.

Mr. Dizzy

(All right, so maybe for the purposes of this post I identify more with Little Miss Dotty or Little Miss Scatterbrain. Still, I think we should keep the unintentional confusion down to a minimum, shall we?)

I got to thinking a little bit today about the organization scheme I’ve been following off-and-on since February, David Allen’s Getting Things Done. ( Simply put, it’s not working for me very well… » )

I Already Used The Obvious Joke Here

Posted in Appleology, Rants at 4:33 am

Next week, Apple is set to release the newest version of their OS X operating system, code-named “Leopard”. (Actually, I suppose it’s no longer strictly speaking a code-name, as it’s pretty much the de facto marketing word for the 10.5 version’s box.) Akin to Microsoft’s release of Windows Vista late last year/early this year, many computer users are facing the very difficult decision: should I stay, or should I go?

( The gag is ‘Beware of the Leopard’, for reference. » )

This post really doesn’t serve much in the way of a purpose; just my musings on the impending release. I’m kind of curious to admit that I’d love to see the commercials for Leopard, to see if they’re as ever-present as the previous “I’m a Mac” commercials have been, but come to think of it, those have sort of dropped off, haven’t they? Also, what do ya think of the new cut system for the blog? (EDIT: Fixed a minor glitch with the cuts; they should be more obvious as cuts now. I’m still working on some more CSS trickery to make them even more obvious.)

Dark Heart Dawning

Posted in Rants at 6:20 pm

Just a little heads-up to anyone wondering what I’ve been listening to lately; for some reason I’m on a pretty big Goth-metal kick. Obviously I’m sticking to more of the melodic stuff, along the lines of Nightwish or Sisters of Mercy, but the whole symphonic metal, dark choirs and heavy melodies thing is appealing to me lately. I can’t fathom why, honestly; I’m actually feeling calmer and happier in general than I have in a long time. It’s not some latent depression thing– at least, I don’t think it is– I’m just going slightly operatic, it seems. Any suggestions on artists I should offer up to the homunculus brooding within me will be greatly appreciated.

On brief reflection, I can honestly say it’s not because Halloween is coming, either. I think “Dark Chest of Wonders” just popped up on the playlist at a particularly influential moment, and I began hungering for more. Ah well.

The Big Count/Let-down

Posted in Gaming, Rants at 4:57 am

As before, I had a neat little rant typed up full of hope and speculation about the Capcom countdown. I was so worked up over the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the Mega Man series would drop all this card battling nonsense and go back to the Classic series, because as Rick has so often reminded me the odds of a new DASH/Legends game are virtually nil. Yeah, well, those odds have just dropped down to Zero (no pun intended when I first wrote it, but hey, a gag’s a gag) because the announcement’s been leaked a day early: it’s a new Bionic Commando game for 360, PS3, and PC. I would have even settled for a new Breath of Fire installment.

One of these days the world really is going to break me of this accursed innate optimism. Not anytime soon, mind, but it’s eventually going to happen.

I Have Fury

Posted in Rants at 5:29 pm

I did have a semi-coherent rant ready for you all tonight about my organizational habits. In an odd fit of appropriateness, that all got tossed out the window when I saw this on a church sign on the way home:

WE DON’T NEED TO KNOW ALL THE THINGS WE WANT TO KNOW

….please tell me I’m not alone in thinking that’s the single dumbest phrase ever uttered. Completely irregardless of where I found it, mind you, I had the same reaction: “That’s f%#$ing stupid.” I certainly respect the rights of people to hold differing opinions but if someone in all sincerity said that to me, face-to-face, and expected me to believe it, I’d sock him.

Yeah. I’ll calm down tomorrow. Right now I need to eat. It’s times like this I wish I could go back to my old ‘irritated and hungry’ phrase of “I must devour the flesh of a chicken or cow to sate my rage”. “I must eat soy protein and simmer in fury and health” doesn’t have the same ring, y’know?
