Hmm, your comment on Smarties and M&Ms is quite interesting. Over here they are two separate sweets - quite similar in nature (chocolate in a sugar shell - melts in your mouth, but not in your hand), though I suppose the Smarties are slightly sweeter (and the orange ones taste of orange). M&Ms have a peanut variety which the Smarties lack. I'd probably say the Smarties are more popular here, and were certainly well-loved in my youth for their round tubes with a letter on the cap (though, alas, the packaging has changed in modern times (but the mini square boxes still survive, thankfully)). I bought a big bag of Smarties and Aeros yesterday for trick-or-treaters, but since few showed up I ended up eating them all myself... Okay, maybe that all wasn't so interesting, but still...

On the topic of Hallowe'en I didn't dress up last night, but for a Physics party last week I made a hand-puppet out of a chestburster plushie (from the Alien movie) and had that sticking out of my torso for the night. Tonight we have a work Hallowe'en do, so I'm dressing up as my much-reviled boss (he won't be there).
