The Big Count/Let-down
As before, I had a neat little rant typed up full of hope and speculation about the Capcom countdown. I was so worked up over the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the Mega Man series would drop all this card battling nonsense and go back to the Classic series, because as Rick has so often reminded me the odds of a new DASH/Legends game are virtually nil. Yeah, well, those odds have just dropped down to Zero (no pun intended when I first wrote it, but hey, a gag’s a gag) because the announcement’s been leaked a day early: it’s a new Bionic Commando game for 360, PS3, and PC. I would have even settled for a new Breath of Fire installment.
One of these days the world really is going to break me of this accursed innate optimism. Not anytime soon, mind, but it’s eventually going to happen.

What, killing Hitler’s not good enough for you?
I’m just glad Capcom’s reviving a property that didn’t end on a sour note.
And while I don’t know if it matters or not, but I think the classic Mega Man is also retired and won’t be having any more traditional Mega Man games. Just the way things are.

Aren’t they making Mega Man Legends 3 but it’s on cell phones?

Oh, believe me, I’m all for the killing of Nazis. I just never had the chance to play the original, so I never quite got the appeal.
And last I checked, the mobile DASH game was a remake of the first one, but I could be wrong. Still, remake or not, it’s not one that is accessible to US players.

I can understand if you were hoping for a particular announcement, but dude: Don’t turn your nose up at Bionic Commando. You won’t like that bionic arm when it’s angry.
However, without looking further into the announcement, I’m disappointed at the thought that it might be shooting for techie razzle-dazzle more than it’s shooting for an awesome game (because otherwise it could go on the Wii, whether or not it tried to use the motion control for the bionic arm).
Let’s be on the level, here, though: What kind of specs would the PC version require? Any word on that yet? I’m just looking for ways I’d be able to play this, y’see.

Further reason not to get too upset: This isn’t THE only announcement, another is still coming. The announcement of Bionic Commando wasn’t leaked so much as intentionally premiered, and the countdown refers to yet something else.

You’re in the minority on this one, John; I’m far more excited about a new Bionic Commando game than I would’ve been about a new Mega Man game. This is basically the same as Nintendo making a new Kid Icarus.
Or at least, I was excited until I read the stupid “modernized” faux-edgy plot synopsis for it. Mike Patton doing the voice of the main character, who is some gritty special agent who was about to be executed by the government he used to work for? Seriously?

The interview that Gamespot has with one of the leads for the game makes me cringe. It’s going to be Final Fight Streetwise all over again, I fear.

I didn’t want to do another post in a row, but I have to say, the news about this game’s plot, design, etc., has considerably deflated me.
I don’t as such want it anymore :P.
*Shudder* Focus groups.
(Though it has made me feel like I should pick up my NES cartridge of the original again)

As an update, Slippy was quite right. The big bombshell was indeed dropped today.
