Twilight Venom

Posted in Rants at 4:42 am

What, was this “place main characters in mortal peril week” at CBS, or what? NCIS had Tony getting blown up, CSI:NY has Mac getting stalker calls, and last night CSI had Sara come to the brink of death. I think somebody had a last-second change of heart there, though I will admit that I searched for Jorja Fox’s name in the credits. Incidentally, for the record? I hate the ‘remixed’ version of Baba O’Reilly now being used for NY’s opening. I mean, hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE HATE HATE HATE (continue Kefka-esque rant here) it. Too much drums, and I usually like percussion sections, but this was just way too much. They really need to go back to the original version, even though the new visuals for the intro are nice. Good episode, too, except for the opening.

Though I will say this: Hearing Jason Dohring’s voice for less than three seconds in a commercial for “Moonlight” forced me to double-check that I had it set to record tonight. Luckily for me, the concept of “vampire detective that’s not Squall” already had me hooked, but I had to be sure.

Not sure what else to say; I want to say that I’ll have a report on Torchwood written up eventually, but I can’t promise that. What I will say is that tomorrow’s entry is either going to be very early or very late, owing to the fact that I’m goin’ Pokemon hunting.

Is it bad that I know where you got “Twilight Venom” from?

Can’t say as I watched “CSI Ny, the Science Guys” this week, so I haven’t heard the bad re-vamp of “Baba O’Riley” to which you allude, but given that Mr. Keith John Moon is acknowledged by many (if not acknowledged by all) to be one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, screwing up a re-vamp of the song by going overboard on percussion must represent a major achievement in human folly. (On a related note, as I was leaving work for the day yesterday, I heard a marching band rendition of a medley of songs by the ‘Oo, among which were “Who Are You” and “Baba O’Riley”. I must admit neither of them are particularly well-suited to marching band renditions, at least partly because of the synthesiser tracks. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” I can just about imagine being pulled off by a marching band, though.)

I did, however, watch the Vee-gas “CSI” premiere, and did rather suspect as soon as Jorja Fox’ name showed up in the opening credits that they had decided to spare Sara. If they had really wanted to leave us guessing until the end of the episode, they would have waited until the end credits to say something to the effect of “Special Appearance by Jorja Fox”. I see they’ve also finally moved Wallace Langham to the opening credits - clearly we can expect to see a lot of Hodges this season. Haven’t decided yet if that’s good or bad.

Well, to be honest, what started my love affair with the Who was an orchestral/acoustic performance of “Who Are You” that I’m not entirely sure where it came from, actually. It was Pete on vocals, though, so it’s legitimate– if a bit curious as to its origins. I have to concur that “Baba O’Riley” probably wasn’t going to be well-served by a marching band rendition, though I can think of a few different ways to try. Which may be why I’m not a musician.
