Timing Is Everything
Things are a little hectic here, folks– new jobs tend to do that. Nothing to report tonight, except that VM is getting better the more I watch of it (which I did not initially think possible), and tomorrow’s going to be some bailout. I’m planning on running an errand tomorrow afternoon, and then spending the evening indulging in this writing surge. I think perhaps that there may be a second ten-thousand word story coming up tomorrow… if I’m lucky, there may even be a couple of them over the next few days. We shall, as always, see.

Got the first two episodes of Crest of of the Stars under my belt. I, too, am surprised by it. Few things to nitpick here and there, but I can push that off to translation. The interaction between Jinto and his buddy who sent him off really seemed sincere, when it could have easily been a cavalcade of cliches and bad dialogue.
Getting a sort of Ender’s Game vibe with it, so if they end up fighting buggers and start spouting pro-Mormon/LDS stuff, I’ll cry ripoff. Just saying.
ps. You know, this is sort of like our own mini-Unbelievers. Only with DVD sets. And blackjack, and hookers! In fact, for get the DVD sets!

The ONE complaint I have with VM, which isn’t much of a complaint, is that it falls into the standard murder mystery gimmick of “You’ll never guess who did it because we won’t give you key information until the last minute”.
This sort of thing happens ALL the time in movie and TV shows though so like I said, not much of a complaint really.

I’m going to go out on a limb, Pez, regarding what your nitpicks are, and say that you should let yourself get to know Lafiel a bit more (the way Jinto is right now) before you assume things about her. :)
I look forward to when you hit… was it episode 4? I don’t want to say the title because it’ll be a spoiler, but the abbreviation, so I can ask John, is “CoL.”
I met Lafiel’s voice actress (please tell me you’re watching it subbed!? - I’ve nothing against dubs, but this one, trust me, is bad) and that was an EXPERIENCE… especially hearing her utter the line “You may call me Lafiel” loudly into her microphone to the point that it boomed in the room.
This was not a tiny room.
Okay back to my drudgery at work. :(

Anyway, I think you’re in for a good time as the series goes on… Can’t recall exactly what Slip is referring to (but if it’s what I think it is, he’s right, that’s going to be good), so I’ll just refrain from comment. Besides, most of my working knowledge of Crest comes from the books, so I’m off-sync anyway.

Oh, and to add a detail, she herself (the actress) didn’t anticipate how much it would amp her voice, so that she herself cringed a bit at the volume when she did it.
I think her hands may have started instinctively reaching for her ears.
