Rock (Un)Steady

Posted in Anime, Bailout, Gaming, Original Video at 8:03 am

Oh, there are so very many gags I could make about this video. “I Wanna Rick”, “Ricking Out”, “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rick And Roll)”… Still, I think it fits.

This happened Friday night after my post, and the hotel wi-fi was too atrociously slow to upload prior to this. So, yeah, we love cons and we love the people who go to the cons.

That was just so awesome. Rick makes that game look like so much fun. ^_^ We’ll have to do that again next year. ;)

My wife wholeheartedly approved of that video.

For those who weren’t there… John made it abundantly clear that Rick/32_Footsteps is the person playing the guitar (and the point of the video)… but just for the record, the guy who is talking and talking and talking (when others quiet down for a moment, you hear me say “The show’s name is Sola”) was me until gradually I shut up as I become more aware of what Rick is doing.

As to why I was talking over the video, hey, there were 8 or more people in the room, people were bound to be having their own conversations… and the person recording just happened to be behind me when taping the video. :)

The only reason I say this is not to call attention to myself as such, but to excuse the fact that I’m going on and on and on during the video when the people watching this as a video are doing so for an entirely different reason.

I’ll leave it to others to disclose their presence or absence here.

Okay, maybe my comment wasn’t so necessary. I guess I was just conscious as to how I seemed to be “interrupting” what people are trying to watch in the video, but plenty of people talk during it.

Following on from Slipgate’s comment, I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I was the intended audience of his conversational tangent but was not paying particularly close attention to what he was saying at the time as I was focused more on the goings-on in front of the television and PS2. So, Slip, I apologise for ignoring you.

Still, the incident recorded on film above was possibly the high point of the weekend in my mind. Either that or watching Rick’s Vib Ribbon odyssey when I tricked him into playing through the finale of Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony - all 35 minutes of it. :)

I was amazed he was willing to play any more songs at all (in Vib Ribbon) after that… and I only saw the tail end or so of his playing that song so I didn’t even know he’d been at it for 35 minutes.

Eh, it’s okay. You can hear me in the video, heh. But I wasn’t paying much attention to the rest of the room as I should have been, either. And… right about now… I shouldn’t even be here to be commenting on this video. Think I’ll go try to be productive again.

Worth noting that in terms of the Mahler piece, there was at least 5 aggregate minutes of doing nothing - it certainly makes it much easier to play when you’re just watching and waiting for the next minute or two for something to do.

    “Yatta ne, yatta ne…”

Remind me again: How much would it cost to get Vib Ribbon? And was it a PSX game or a PS2 game?

Well, keep in mind, I picked up Vib Ribbon over two years ago, so the fact that I got it for around $25 (after taxes and import fees) is one of those “right place, right time” situations.

Anyhow, it’s a PS1 game, and I did see one importer who had the original release of it (I have the PS1 Books version) for around $40 at Otakon. Beyond that, it’s growing increasingly rare, and I’d expect to pay no less than $50 for it at this point.
