Clean Slate (Almost)
So, Monday. Yeah, there was something weird going on on Monday that defied description and explanation. Still, dropping the word “hospital” on you guys was a bit over the top. So, here goes.
Monday morning, at work, I became unconscious for about a minute or so. I don’t know exactly how long it was, but it was enough for me to notice it and to recognize it for what it was. In any event, upon waking, I called for help and immediately began to throw up in the wastebasket. The ambulance was called and I was taken to the hospital.
At the hospital, I was given an IV of saline and an anti-vomiting drug, as well as an anti-vertigo medication. This persisted for a couple of hours while the bloodwork and urine testing were done. In the end, the doctor could not find a reasonable explanation for the fainting and sent me home with a potassium supplement and a prescription for more anti-vertigo. I was driven home by my boss, and my parents arrived at my house a couple of hours later.
On Tuesday morning I went to see a second doctor, and received a diagnosis that the potassium deficiency may have compounded with a vesovagal interruption, triggering the unconsciousness. I was told to drink plenty of fluids and to take potassium supplements, and to take the remainder of the day off to recover more fully. Things went well and I did indeed relax for most of Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning (today), I drove my parents with me to work so they could see the office and so they could get back. They left my house a few hours later and made it home all right.
As it stands, I’m still a little shaky– my stomach feels funny but that’s probably more due to the diet than anything else. I did get information from both doctors that my diet plan was completely not to blame. I’m now behind on my podcasts and my audiobook listening, but that’s understandable.
Other stuff happened which I am obliged to keep you all in the dark about, but fortunately that ‘other stuff’ was good. In the meantime, I’m off to relax just a little bit more before things start to get really weird. Later, folks. It’s good to be, y’know, not dead.
