Furry Smash!

Posted in Gaming at 5:42 am

There’s a lot of information being released of late regarding the highly-anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. The biggest information thus far is the list of musicians involved, which include two of my favorites– Michiko Naruke and Noriyuki Iwadare. Overall that’s not terribly interesting news, except that by and large those two composers’ music doesn’t really sound like “game music”; they both have pretty unique styles among the rest of the people in that very esteemed group.

Also of interest, actually, is the fact that Geometry Wars is coming to the Wii and the DS. Bizarre Creations won’t have much to do with it (it’s being handled by the same house that did Battalion Wars for the GC) but there look to be some good added features such as a ’single-player campaign’ (supposedly more of one than “collect all the achievements”) and multiplayer. I’d be a lot more interested if Geom Wars hadn’t been literally my first purchase once I got my 360; but I do recommend it for anyone who does not have that machine.

More of an update tomorrow on the ongoing automoblowout.

I’ve got no great love for car shopping; I have even less interest in doing it when a) I know what I want and b) I know I have a 90% shot of not being able to afford what I want until later, and I just need something in the interim. Still, it could be much worse.

I could be on my own here.

Double-Line Wrath

Posted in Rants, Site News at 3:37 pm

Most folks in the Inner Circle know what happened; I’m still a little unsteady and fatigued but all right enough to be able to relay this in more-or-less full. Yesterday morning (Saturday) I was involved in a car accident. I was hit by a pickup truck that was attempting to make an illegal and sudden U-turn. My sister was in the car with me; both of us were unhurt, though the car sustained heavy damage to the front-end. The accident was not my fault, as declared by the police; in retrospect my actions may have saved the other driver’s life (I missed pinning his door).

I repeat: My sister and I sustained no injuries at all. We are fine.

I’m more or less stuck in Cuba right now, however; things are calming down and I have some other stuff to take care of with regards to the good thing that happened last week, but there’s time yet for that (and to the best of my knowledge I don’t have to be in Pittsburgh to do it just yet).

There are some important lessons to be learned from all of this. First, and foremost, wear your seat belts. Secondly, always be alert on the road. And finally (and what has me the most upset), the turn signal is not optional, dammit.

On the plus side, I did pick up the last book of Crest of the Stars yesterday afternoon. Good stuff, really. I’m thinking when I get back I’d like to read the whole thing all the way through, though.

We’ll talk more tomorrow.

It’s All About Seoul

Posted in Gaming at 5:26 am

Following last night’s announcement, I predict that the wonderful nation of South Korea will experience a sudden drop in productivity.

Lots to do today, so I’ll just keep it short like that.

I’ve Lost Count

Posted in Gaming, Site News at 7:40 am

The Circle and a few other folks are aware of the new situation, but unfortunately I’m not able to publicly divulge what’s happened in the last 24 hours. Yet. Probably next week. Anyway, the gist is that several things that were ‘on hold’ or uncertain have now become certain with a high degree of probability.

Yeah. Good Stuff has Finally Happened.

ANYWAY. I have finally figured out what I want on my license plate, and as soon as I get it taken care of, I’ll show it off. Yeah, it’s a gaming thing, but obscure enough that I don’t think anyone’s got it yet. I might have it in time for Otakon (but don’t count on it).

Off to my parents’ house today, for reals this time. Catch you cats later.

Revelations

Posted in Rants, Site News at 12:35 pm

Today I’m heading down to my parents’ house to do the whole ‘celebrate birthdays’ thing. I’ll try to get a post up each day over the weekend. Beyond that, not much else going on.

Oh, I suppose you might be wondering what the gimmick from the last post was. Assuming this “read more” thingy works, you can click that to find out.

The Number Twenty-Seven

Posted in Gaming, Rants at 6:58 pm

I had a gimmick to this post, but in the interest of simplicity, I elected to omit it from the final product because it was not funny. Still, some portions of it did manage to sneak through, and I will be completely and utterly not surprised if someone manages to quickly figure it out.

So, as you may have surmised by the egregious amount of praise being heaped on me, today is my birthday: I turn twenty seven years old today. I normally like to keep the occasion significantly low key compared to usual daily life, as I tend to keep to myself most of the time anyway. It is worth mentioning, however, that I tried valiantly to find myself a nice gift with which I could treat myself; needless to say, I failed completely. When the only games being released this week are all “Shrek The Third”, the pickings are slim and none, and Slim just hopped the proverbial last train out. It might be for the best; I have often said that I have a great backlog of games, and we are now facing the annual summer drought. There is a proverb about this situation, but I am certain you are all sufficiently familiar with it as to obviate its recitation here in this post. Besides, it ill lends itself to the paraphrasing needed to remain consistent with the surviving gimmick; thus, it must remain unspoken here, but not in the comments.

Journeys

Posted in Rants, Site News at 5:05 pm

I hit the road today; damn near broke my hand. Anyway, nothing terribly interesting to report today, either. Well, yeah, sure, stuff happened in the world, but this page isn’t about the world. It’s mostly about the world that revolves around me, which (to say the least) is non-existent. So, basically, while I could say that I’ve started, like, a zillion new projects, that’s more or less what I do every day, and 99% of those never go more than ten minutes before I decide they’re not worth pursuing. Rather than tease you with even a fraction of the leftover 1%, I’d really prefer not to say anything anymore about them until I actually, y’know, have something to show rather than a half-baked idea.

So, yeah, expect a half-baked idea tomorrow.

Poke-parting Depression

Posted in Rants at 6:49 pm

….yes, that is a horrible, horrible joke. Anyway. Not much to report today. Heading out to eat dinner now, I realized that a) I hadn’t posted anything all day because b) I hadn’t done anything all day. Well, not really. There’re a couple gags in the works here and there but nothing major.

Yes, gags. Not gigs. I don’t talk about gigs until they’re good and/or gone. Gagging the gig gab gets me back to good if the gig gets gutted, and I gain ground on gigs not yet got. Got it? Great.

GAME CLEARED: Pokemon Diamond (DS)

Posted in Game Cleared 2007, Gaming at 4:31 pm

At 5:21pm, I defeated Pokemon League Champion (Spoiler, hover over to read) and registered in the Hall of Fame for Pokemon Diamond on the DS. This is the tenth game cleared in 2007. The next game that is closest to completion is Super Robot Taisen (GBA), followed by Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Wii) and (nothing else started).
