A Curious Accumulation Of Coincidences

Posted in Gaming, Rants at 8:27 am

Hey, folks. Sitting in PPG Place in downtown Pittsburgh. (No, I’m not going to liveblog the interview; as much as I would want to, that just seems awfully unprofessional.) Anyway, this isn’t the first time I’ve been here; two years ago I wandered through this part of the world on (yet another) job interview, which turned out to be Not Good. Hopefully this time things work out.

Anyway, Star Fox 64 hit the VC on Monday, and today I pick up my copy of Final Fantasy Fables (adding yet another game to my “to complete list”… but in my defense I traded in quite a few to get FF Fables). SF64 plays very similarly to the original, which is as expected; however, the original had this annoying “finish it in one session” lack of mid-campaign saving, and this one does as well. For some strange reason the game also does not support the “suspend” feature of the VC, meaning that you still have to finish the whole campaign in one sitting. Argh. Anyway, my only real complaint is that the Classic Controller is a little ill-suited for the game; the controls are akin to the first Star Fox game, aside from the fact that the d-pad is completely inoperative in favor of the analog stick. Speaking of that, props to Nintendo for having the sense to map boost and brake to the X and Y buttons as opposed to the right analog.

Naturally, after four or five years away from SF64, I once again suck. I used to be able to do the train mission in my sleep… Grrr.

ANYWAY. While I would love to talk more about Ether and other things, I can’t– need to clear my mind in preparation for the interview. Wish me luck, folks– hopefully I’ll get through this with a minimum of trouble. Oh, and one more little thing; I’m still waiting to reveal a sort-of big surprise from last week. As soon as I can, I’ll give you guys the scoop– literally and metaphorically. Ciao for now.
