Addendum: I hadn't looked at the article title.

Hmm.

Although this has little to no bearing on how I would necessarily behave now, when I WAS a game news reporter (we're talking 1997/early 1998) I used to report the news item first and make a quip (like that in the title) in maybe the last sentence of the news item.

This has little to no bearing on the now because that was just the way I went about things without really thinking about why. If I WAS to write game news today and inject opinion into it, it would probably be opinion later, news first, but it's hard to say if it would be because I'd be conscious of it now with things like this news story out there or if it would've just been carryover from when I was a kid anyway (had I not known about this).

I'm not sure that the article DOES put the opinion before the news. Joystiq has made some bad moves, but I'm not sure this is one of them... seems like you're watching them almost too-hawklike.

As for the timing of the opinion? Well, we've established Joystiq is a blog site... and with a slow news day, watcha gonna do?

All that said, when you began I was almost going to ask you "what? you want the plastic?" because I was picturing the vacuum-sealed packages they put game accessories and stuff in now, those packages we hate (that I always injure my hands opening)... and I have to admit I WANT boxes to come back for that stuff. Let the stuff be freaking accessible.

The DS game cases, though... I've seen them in passing in stores as I beeline for the PS2 games, but I've never actually touched one, so it hadn't occurred to me that they weren't cardboard.
