Deteriorata

Posted in Gaming, Rants, Writing at 8:43 am

Is it just me, or has Joystiq’s writing gone to hell lately? I mean, first there was the “rational gamers will spend more money on garbage they don’t want” article, then the “big non-news! stay up late with us for no reason!” thing, and now this “let’s troll the DDR players with the oldest god damned stereotype we can find” article. I have no problem, of course, with the fact that the writer doesn’t like DDR. I would, however, expect a professional blog (that’s not The Unbelievers) to not let him write an article about the newest DDR game if he hates them. Hell, he didn’t even write this one! He just copied-and-pasted a bunch of really lame trolls from the DDR Freak forums with the factually incorrect “it’s not all bad, you can lose weight, RedOctane says so!” false appeasement. Gah.

Yes, I fell hard for it. Can you blame me? When they stop being stupid I’ll stop complaining about it. Matter of fact, to pad the content on Unbelievers I might start snapping back at “the media” just because, hell, there’s nothing else going on there.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Joystiq had lost the plot back with that “major Wii announcement” thing.

Now that I’ve actually read the article, I think you’re overreacting. The only thing there that’s really a troll is the “techno, techno, techno” thing, and it’s a weak troll at that.

    Joystiq still blows, though.

Sorry about making a third comment here, but I have to after reading the comments on Joystiq: The funniest thing about this article is the number of people going, “It’s not techno, it’s Eurobeat” as if that means anything to anyone outside of DDR fanboys. A better way to make your point might be to point out all of the 70’s music and J-Pop on the DDR mixes, guys.

I will say that the Joystiq series of events (in a row, no less) were ridiculous professional behavior.

As it’s 1:50 am, I’m not sure I’ll go read the article there right now, but I’m sure I invariably will by tomorrow or the next day.

I also anticipate 600+ replies by then if there aren’t already that many now.

    Correction. I read it.

Seems less people are dignifying Joystiq with a visit these days.

It’s tempting to reply, isn’t it?

The article was what someone described it as - a meaningless potshot. If they DO note other releases by simply noting them and the metacritic score, it’s only fair they do that for this game in order to be a professional service. A guy taking a potshot is only something I’d read if I cared about that guy specifically… and it’s not like Joystiq has only one contributor that the people who visit can be riveted to like that. This isn’t old Blue’s News where you read because you were reading Blue, or so on.

Anyway, the article was damned short and damned meaningless. Barely any info in it even about its purported subject. To quote Twisp and Catsby… TIRESOME.
