I Predict A Riot
I’m quite nearly done with the primary Unbelievers site, so rather than work on a post for it just yet I’m going to hold off. Instead I bring you this drivel.
I made a little bit of a big deal over the changeover from Adelphia Cable to Time Warner. One of the things about it, though, that’s causing trouble is the fact that in both Cleveland and in Buffalo, the NFL Network was dropped from the channel lineup.
The NFL Network is gone. In Buffalo and Cleveland. Just about a month before the season starts.
That’s kinda like telling France and Italy they aren’t allowed to watch the World Cup, and springing it on them a week before the first matches.

There was a news item about this decision in which Time Warner were apparently told they had to restore the NFL Network as they didn’t give their customers enough notice that they were planning to drop it. Whether or not they’ll drop it again remains to be seen, but it did cite Cleveland and Buffalo as well as Dallas as areas where the lack of the NFL Network would, indeed, probably spark riots. Yet more proof that cable television is run (and, largely, watched) by complete morons.

Indeed, it looks like the channel has been restored. However, an irritating blue banner has been put into the feed telling viewers to pester TWC to keep the NFL Network. This is similar to a spat between Viacom and other major cable companies that happened a year or so ago, in which Spike TV and a few other channels had such things added onto the image to basically annoy the viewers and drag them into a fight between two huge corporations who could literally not care less about the viewers. We’ll see how this plays out.
