May Day

Posted in Rants, Site News, Writing at 9:26 am

Things have been… well, a little hectic around here. Preparations for the trip to E3 and all that jazz. Plus, well, most of my writing has been centered around the forums and a couple reviews, so that’s another drain on my time. (That reminds me– have to do the In The Groove review tonight.) Still, I’m not alone in the lack of time, apparently, as this is traditionally the finals period. So CoX should be, at least, slowing down a bit (at least until Issue 7 hits live, probably a week or so after E3).

I haven’t really offered much in the way of an update on the weight loss– in fact, I haven’t mentioned it at all since the redesign. Honestly, it’s become something of a non-issue as I’ve just been doing my own thing, eating less, and dropping the weight at a slower but still steady rate. This past Saturday I was under 180 pounds for the first time since roughly my sophomore year of college. To think that I was carrying around 35 pounds of flab for damn near six years… I’m not done yet, of course, though I am getting close– just about fifteen more pounds to go. But, this is Day 99 of the diet, and I’m quite impressed with the progress. I figure I’ll be at where I want to be by July. Of course, there is the slight problem of I don’t know how I’m going to STOP losing weight once I get there, but that’s still a ways off.

Let’s talk a bit about DDR, for those of you who read this for that. I’m getting more and more comfortable with Heavy, and more often than not I’m playing full Heavy sets. The problem is that there’s a bit of a jump in difficulty between a 7 and an 8… and I keep expecting it to not be as tricky. Regardless, I’m pushing myself to play new 7s as opposed to sticking to the ones I know (”Colors” is good, yes, but I’m getting a little sick of it). I just find it odd that there’s three Oni songs I can do– one before I could play Heavy regularly. Hm… trying to think, I felt really good about clearing a song this weekend, but can’t remember which one it was… I might just have to rewrite DEPTH this month or next and start using it again. Maybe… that’s a lot of data entry to do and for extremely little payoff. We’ll see.

Incidentally, I think the song I was so proud of was “Graduation”. Either that or sight-reading “If You Were Here” during a nonstop immediately before failing “Dam Dariram”. I may have managed “Abyss” as well, but I’m not sure. Come of think of it, there’re a lot of songs I haven’t played in literally a year or more… “Freckles”, “Cutie Chaser”… hrm. I have my work cut out for me next weekend.

Sprint has Megatokyo ‘wallpapers’ available for their phones. I’d be all over that if I just knew that some part of my $2 a pop was going back to Fred/Sarah/Dom. hint hint

Back to DDR for just a sec, but SuperNOVA has apparently hit in Europe and has a decent selection of tracks. 301 available on a fresh machine, and some of those are Pop’n crossovers (DoLL, Murmur Twins (yes, I know Murmur Twins is actually a IIDX crossover, but in my defense shut up), Kagerow (I think)) and others are home tracks that I really liked (Un Deux Trois, Jam & Marmalade, Tomorrow Perfume). I know Fun & Stuff isn’t going to buy the full machine (they said once the ITG drive fails further, they’re going to upgrade that to ITG2) but if a conversion kit for an Extreme cabinet makes it, they’ll consider it– and lo and behold, conversion kits should be out in August.

I’ve actualyl spent longer on this post that I meant to, but that’s more or less what’s been going on– City of Heroes/Villains, DDR, losing weight and doing work. Novel work has been backburnered for too long; once I7 hits I’ll either drop the novel completely again or I’ll focus on it– probably refocus on it. If anything, I might be able to re-focus on it while playing CoX… We’ll see. Later.

Oh, and for the record, I refuse to call it that stupid name. It’s the Revolution, all right?
